This is the first of six Gnossiennes by Eric Satie. Inspired by dances from the inhabitants of Knossos on Crete, note the lack of barlines which says something about the eccentic originality of the composer. The first three Gnossiennes were composed first and these are available from The Music Room (UK), and the three Gymnopedies can be found at Sheet Music Plus (US).

The Gymnopédies, or Trois Gymnopédies, are three piano compositions written by French composer and pianist Erik Satie. He completed the whole set by 2 April 1888, but they were at first published individually: the first and the third in 1888, the second in 1895.
